The American Nightmare

My parents migrated to this country in the 1970, they earned their legal status in the 1984 during the Reagan administration. Growing up in Chicago I watch my parents labor hard to make a way for me and my sister. My little sister is currently going to college and being a true reflections of the promise and positive opportunities that exist in this country. Sad to say I lost my way, by thinking I could earn some fast money by way of hustling.
The truth of the matter is there are allot of my people who risk life and limb trying to get to this country in hope of experiencing the American dream, just to find themselves waking up to the American Nightmare i.e. An extensive sentence in federal Prison, where once their sentence is over they will be deported out of the country. What allot of my people don’t know is if they make the wrong decision while in this country they will lose access to the homes they buy, their wife and children. Right now 60% of federal conviction are immigration cases and best believe as time goes on this country is going to get harder and harder on illegal immigrants. Therefore it is my goal with this post to warn the 11 million plus illegal immigrants that currently reside in this country: Please do the right things make your family and our culture proud for the sacrifices so many have made to get you here.
I’ve learned the hard way that the freedoms and unlimited opportunities in this country are precious and should not be taken for granted. For those of you who do not understand the immigrants struggle. Please be remember that this great nation was founded by immigrant who left their country looking for greater opportunity and look what grew from that. I’d like to thank Convict Soap box for creating this website and giving me the platform to share my American perspective.

Rene Valladares
My name is Rene Valladares, I'm 30 years old, I was born and raise in Chicago Illinois, but I'm a descendant from Guerrero Mexico. I'm currently serving a 30 year sentence for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. I'm a proud supporter of convict soap box because I know that it is important that we as ex-felon express to the world the real repercussions and realities that associated with incarceration and making the wrong decision.
