“As we learn to bear the intimacy of scrutiny and to flourish within it, as we learn to use the products of that scrutiny for power within our living, those fears which rule our lives and form our silences begin to lose their control over us.”(Audre Lorde – Poetry Is Not A Luxury)
Last night, I just read this essay, Poetry Is Not A Luxury by Audre Lord. This paragraph of the essay captivated me, something that I felt compelled to share.
Throughout life, we have embraced the natural reflexes of running from pain to pursue pleasure. However, where would we be without our mountains, our crosses to bear? Where would we be without those who do not lavish us with continuing showers of praises, but out of love and concern for our improvement examine us with a fine comb to expose our shortcomings to not humiliate us but to refine us into something GREAT? Just my thoughts!
