“Being GREAT requires audacity to go against the traditionally way of thinking. You have to be bold to swim against the powerful tidal waves that overpower and drown those that attempt to oppose them.”(Halim Flowers – Be Great Wherever You Are)

I often wonder how many of us have actually experienced this blessing that we call life with “living”. How many of us have become accustomed to being and accepting something for ourselves that is not in alignment with our deepest desire of who we really want to be? To me, that is the ultimate form of death; to be have life without the courage to be who you “really” want to be.

How many of us want to be something right now, but we keep making excuses as to why have not even attempted to take a serious step towards fulfilling our personal vision? How many of us are even afraid to just give serious thought into doing with our lives what we really love the most?

I read that Socrates had learn the ancient teachings of life from the High Priests in Kimet(Egypt) and they made their pupils take a vow of secrecy to not share their knowledge with the masses. When Socrates returned to Greece, having to honor his covenant, he never told his students the sacred knowledge. However, he offered them a glimpse into the teachings by asking them rhetorical questions that would penetrate the veil of ignorance and lead them to see the light.

Therefore, I often like to write in a way where I can ask my readers questions where they can find the answers of life inside of themselves. For this is true education, to “educe” and bring out the truth from inside of others. I am certain that all of the answers of life are already inside of us all, but we have been programmed to seek everything outside of ourselves. And, this is another form of not living. The death of not knowing yourself leads to the devaluation and love of self which allows us to accept what others tell us that we can never do or never be.

In all things, I wish you life, but most of all, I pray that you can have the strength to LIVE! Just my thoughts….

My name is Halim Flowers and I am an author, poet, blogger(CriminalU.co), and at-risk youth advocate. I have been incarcerated for 18 years, since I was 16 years of age for aiding and abetting a felony murder in a case where I was not the shooter and the person charged as the gunman had his case dismissed and was never tried for this offense. I know it sounds crazy but it is my destiny for now and I embrace. My passion in life is learning and helping to enlighten and inspire others, especially helping to develop the character and lives of young men. I was featured in an Emmy award winning documentary about my experiences as a child at the adult D.C. Jail titled "Thug Life In DC"(See Thug Life In DC at YouTube) and I have authored nine books in the genres of self-help, prisoner reform, juvenile justice, memoir, and poetry(See Halim Flowers at Amazon.com). I very contrite for my past criminal offenses and seriously committed to helping our youth to understand "Victim's Impact" and breaking the "school-to-prison pipeline".
