Acceptance of Responsibility
By Demond A. Jackson
The true definition of leadership, manhood and “keeping it 100” is becoming meaning less, because those who claim these title are failing to accept responsibility for their actions or lack there of. It amazes me how fast those we have bestowed the responsibility of being our leaders or friends and ect. Are quick to find reasons why its not their fault, that something has gone wrong do to their lack of foresight or their failure to do what they were supposed to under the title we’ve bestowed upon them. For example the American political spectrum is currently in pure disarray, over one man.. “Donald J. Trump.”
Mr. Trump has pulled the curtain open on both parties, exposing how their “do nothing” philosophy has the American people willing to support a “Hustler” over those who have spent their entire live evolved in politics and sworn to uphold their offices for the betterment of the people.
The sad part is instead saying “People of American we apologize for our inconsideration with regard to your will.” They are strategically fighting to keep the positions and their right to continue to screw American people around.
Personally, I’m reminded of this lack of leadership everyday I wake up. Being incarcerated, I’m force to live under the leadership of Officer’s and Administrators, who are constantly making decision that effect the prison population based on politics verses the orderly operation of the institution and the inmates who live here.
A few weeks ago a inmate almost set his cell on fire in an attempt to cook breakfast burritos. Using torn blankets, and the bottom of his bunk to cook on, he had so much smoke coming out his cell, its amazing that he didn’t suffocate before the officer became aware of what he was doing. The reason he was cooking on his bunk is the side effect of a decisions made by prison leader i.e, because there are no longer any microwave in U.S.P Lee and the only way to get a hot meal or a cup of coffee outside the kitchen is by starting fires in the cell.
The lost of the microwave came about do to an agreement between the Lee Count Officers Union and the Executive Administration. (Do to a clearly disturbed inmate throwing hot water on a officer.) In replacement of the microwave the administration put in a small boiler that’s locked in place near the ice machines in every unit. Yet the temperature of the water these boilers produce cannot be higher than 140 degree’s., I know it sounds high, but this is extremely low for hot water, it barely cooks a Cup-o-Soup and by the time the soups is finally done, the soup is now cold.
Also, because of the lost of the microwave, there are no longer any iron’s in the prison. Inmates started dismantling the iron’s to make home made stingers in order to boil “hot” water. This cause the Administration to refuse to buy iron’s. Therefore, I am unable to iron my clothes. What frustrates me about this situation and situations like this.. is the inability of those who are in control to accept responsibility for the decision they made. What did they think these guys would do?
Let’s be real, if there wasn’t any gas, electric to make hot or cold running water in homes across America, people would start starting fires in their yard, our neighborhood would be filled with smoke. That being the case we would hold those responsible for supplying our home with gas and electric responsible, surely we wouldn’t blame are neighbors for burning whatever they could to feed themselves. So why are administrators holding the inmate population responsible for cell fires and the destruction of institutional property, why are politicians blaming Mr. Trump for the outrages nonsense he is propagating on American stages. Especially, when Republican and Democrats created the issues he is using to be in the position he is in currently. Accept responsibility!!!!!, then strive to correct your errors. Stop adding insult to injury… This apply’s across the board when it comes to being someone of integrity. The only way you and I can grow from our mistakes are by admitting we made one and accepting responsibility for our action or en-action.
If you are dealing with issues be it relationships, friendship or business. Before you start looking for other’s to blame for why things are not working out as you would have them. I would advice you to first see what role you are playing in the negative results you are getting whether your role is big or small. Take the initiative to accept responsibility for what you could of done better and then strive for a better solution. Once we accept responsibility it limits our ability to repeat the mistake because now when it comes to any situation we are watching what we do with more attention than what other are or are not doing. My life became a whole lot easier, when I started accept responsibility for my actions and en-actions. This has made me a better man and we the people would simply do this as a collective. We would not being dealing with moral dissension we are dealing with currently in America point blank period. The world is in a disarray and most of you are not taking responsibility for the fact that “you” personally have done nothing to help make it better.
