Koch’s community activist?
By Demond A. Jackson
Charles Koch is building a non-profit geared toward revitalizing our communities. The organization is called “Stand Together”, currently the org is focusing on poverty and educational equality. But its mission is to “revitalize civil society.”
The program is still in its beginning stage but it striving to raise 15 million this year. In an interview with USA TODAY one of the organizers describe Stand Together as “venture philanthropy” committed to “strengthening the fabric of American society.” “The sole purpose of Stand Together is to make a real difference in real people’s lives by actually solving the problems they have,” the group’s executive director, Evan Feinberg said. He said the group won’t veer into policy fights but instead plans to focus on partnerships with private groups addressing social problems, such as gang violence and high recidivism rates. Koch has been working to develop Stand Together for close to a year, but the group is making its pubic debut this year. Bob Woodson, a prominent black conservative who trains grass-root leaders, as president and ceo of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise. Woodson has teamed up with Stand Together, and from the looks of things Woodson has the talent to make Stand Together a nationally recognized org. Woodson, was the architect behind George W. Bush’s faith base initiative, he traveled with Paul Ryan on his to seeking support for his “battle plan” in the war on poverty. He also understand the true dynamic when it comes to the real issues plaguing America’s ghetto’s. Koch and his Brother, David , send millions of dollars to programs aimed at the poor and our committed to broadening their outreach beyond a core base of free-market conservatives. Americans for Prosperity, the Koch’s’ long-standing, largest grass-roots arm, offers couponing classes.” Libre Initiative, hands out free holiday turkeys to Latinos. In 2014, Charles Koch and Koch Industries contributed $25 million to the United Negro College Fund, much of it for scholarships. I am glad that the financial power players in this country are finally recognizing that America’s social ills are their social ill. The creation of Stand Together proves, until we all work together the rich, poor and middle class, on the issues that has this great nation descending nothing will change.
So let me be the first to commend Koch and his associate at Stand Together for stepping up and leading by example when it comes to striving to create a solution to our problem.
