OneNation had a chance to meet up with DC’s Own Dusty Hernandez-Harrison. One of the top fighters coming out of DC. A Humble yet Focused Man, with Ferocious skills to be a Legend in the Game. For those who don’t know, At the age of 17, Dusty already had 197 amateur bouts fought, and multiple National Championships accomplished. And  chose to forgo his amateur status and made history in his professional debut on June 11, 2011 when he became the youngest licensed professional fighter in the United States. In his first professional bout at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss. Dusty faced Alphonso Alexander, a man more than twice his age. Dusty appeared to be the veteran in the ring, winning by a 40-36 shutout on all three judges’ scorecards. His Dad and Mom played a pivotal role in his life. And during the interview he embraced all the struggle and sacrifice they made to assist with leading him to the man he became today. Growing up Dusty explained he lived in Southeast Washington DC. One of the Toughest areas to live in the city. When asked about his early school days, he mentioned “while in day school, as an adolescence, a dead body was found in the school.” Mom not feeling how things where going in DC at the time called on Dusty to move and live in MD with her. While co-parenting with Dusty’s Dad “Buddy”. A co-parenting was agreed upon and Threw the years, Dusty would split days out the week to stay with Mom, and Days to stay with Dad. Buddy, Dusty’s dad molded Dusty, at the young age of 10 months, which being a fast learner, he started shadow boxing at 2 years old. As time went on and Dusty began to get older, His Dad utilized his past history of being a boxer himself, and taught the fundamentals, and workout exercises to condition the young warrior to concur future battles in the ring. Dusty began training in his dad’s boxing gym and became the community boxing gym that worked with all whom wanted to learn the art of boxing, and not just how to fight. The Art form taught included discipline, strategy, life skills, and Respect for self and others. Dusty participated in his first boxing exhibition at the tender age of 6 at the historic Ritz Nightclub in Northwest D.C. By the age of 8, Dusty was competing in sanctioned amateur matches and quickly amassed championship medals, including the National Silver Gloves Championships, National Golden Gloves Championships and the Ringside World Championships, among others, as Dusty compiled an amateur record of 167-30.
