Katie Holmes is dispelling the notion she’s now trying “reclaim her career,” following her divorce from Tom Cruise.
The Giver actress, who has several movies in the works, does not believe her high-profile marriage to Cruise contributed in any way to having fewer acting jobs, noting in fall issue of DuJour, “It’s the life of an actor.”
“We don’t really have a lot of choice in the matter,” she tells the magazine. “You have dry spells, and then you have times when there is a lot of opportunity.”
Although Holmes admits she wasn’t as interested in acting during her married years, she says it was because of the arrival of her daughter, Suri.
“I totally admire women who go back to work six weeks after giving birth,” she explains, “but when she was little, I was not ready. I was a very nervous mother — like, sleeping next to her crib — and I was in that mode for a long time.”
