Aretha Franklin “Setting the Bar”
By Demond A. Jackson
Aretha Franklin, often known as the “Queen of Soul”, civil rights advocate, follower of Christ and epitome of a humanist.
Set the bar for what it means to be a strong woman. As I watch the media pay homage to all of her accomplishment, I couldn’t help but wonder who is the Aretha Franklin of this age?
Who will support our positive leaders with their time, talent and finances like Aretha Franklin did. Who will inspire our young women to be a Diva in the truest meaning of the word i.e, classy , sassy, humble, spiritual and morally grounded.
It’s women like Aretha that has been the back bone, shoulder to lean on and inspiration for leaders like Martin Luther King Jr.
She advocated unselfishly to remove and repair injustice for people of all colors… Setting the Bar for womanhood. Has me feeling like generation now and in the future will be lacking a major component to the betterment of mankind i.e, “a strong righteous woman!”
That being said, if you respect and love what Aretha Franklin gave to the world through out her lifetime. Then biggest prays and homage we can show her is to make sure all women strive to reach and surpass the bar she set and that we support all the women who are walking on the path she has laid. Because without a Queen a King is just a man with unbalanced power.
Rest In Peace Aretha Franklin…
